First, last, always we are about usable self-defense focusing on the most common attacks.

That sentence says a lot more than you think

What is “self-defense”? The definition of self-defense that we use comes from Mike Janich and his system called Martial Blade Concepts. He describes it as “Take away the Bad Guy’s ability to hurt you, create distance, then get to safety.”  We take that to mean that we are not learning to be a better kickboxer, or grappler, or pressure point fighter. I just want to make it so you can’t hurt me and then I skedaddle. So we will never work on “putting up your dukes and trading punches”.

“Usable” is another concept that is of paramount importance.  If what I wanted everyone to do, in order to stay safe, was all flying kicks...there would be trouble. I can’t do a single flying kick, its awesome if you can but it is not expected. Instead, what we want to do is teach you material that can be replicated and applied with a reasonable success rate. We will take into consideration whatever physical limitations you have and find a way around them.

And finally, what are “The Most Common Attacks”?  We look at Department of Justice crime statistics, actual criminal reports, information from medical examiners, and anecdotal video evidence.(Spoiler: its a LOT of hard right handed attacks)
